Close call! The Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassos revealed that she experienced an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during her hometown date with Charles “Chock” Chapple — but thankfully, the cameras didn’t catch it.
The Maryland native, at the age of 61, shared how she had been wearing silicone breast covers under her sundress during her hometown date with Chock, also 61, in Wichita, Kansas. This memorable moment played out in episode 6 of the dating show. However, the hot weather caused one of the covers to come loose, leading to an awkward situation.
“It was honestly like 105 degrees … I had those on because I have the sundress on, and you can’t have bra straps showing,” Joan told Entertainment Weekly on November 6. “It’s probably three hours into the date, and I’ve just sweated for hours and hours.” This uncomfortable heat added to her dilemma as she tried to maintain her composure during the date.
As Joan recounted, while she was listening to Chock express how much he adored her and their journey together, she began to feel something was amiss underneath her dress. “As he’s talking, I can feel the boob pad coming unstuck," she continued. "I feel it starting to slip and I’m trying to stop it with my arm, and I can’t do it. It makes it down to my stomach, and then it comes right off the bottom of the dress, and there it is by my foot!”
Despite the mortification of the moment, Joan concluded, “We’re standing in front of everybody. There’s no chance nobody saw it. But the cameras, I don’t think caught it, because they definitely would’ve shown it. So that was the one that I got away with.” This humorous reflection reveals her ability to laugh at herself even in potentially embarrassing situations.
Although this wardrobe malfunction was a significant moment for Joan, it did not hinder her romantic journey with Chock. He is one of the two finalists vying for her heart on The Golden Bachelorette. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see her make a choice between Chock and Guy Gansert during the season finale on November 13.
“I’m hopeful I’m gonna find somebody that I’m gonna spend the rest of my life with and this ends with an engagement,” Joan expressed during the fantasy suites episode on October 30. This sentiment shows her determination to find lasting love after experiencing heartbreak when one of her final suitors, Pascal Ibgui, self-eliminated.
Pascal had a heartfelt moment during their breakup, saying, “I know what love is. I’ve experienced it, you’ve experienced it... But I’m not in love, you know, and I just can’t be there and it’s hurting me because we have a good time together.” His honesty reflects the complexity of relationships on reality television.
During the Men Tell All episode, Joan confronted Pascal for the first time since their split. He expressed regret, stating, “I hope I didn’t hurt her. That was not my intention. She is a wonderful woman.” Their conversation highlighted the emotional depth that can occur even in competitive dating situations.
Ultimately, Joan told Pascal, “I pictured a life with you... but you had already made up your mind.” This moment illustrates the challenges of love and the importance of open communication in any relationship.
